awhile ago, i found out about a very peculiar place, where people say your nightmare really do come alive. For a long time, the governments itself can't touch this place and it had been the center from many powerful crime lords. This place hosted various (illegal) factories, events and even services, i.e; unlicensed surgery. The place is called Kowloon Walled City

why would i want to go to such place? you might ask. well i want to feel really overwhelmed by sheer awesomeness. The dark alleys, squatter houses, the very extreme dark side of human society that can only be conveyed in movies but only this one is real life.

when i said society, i meant real society with a structure, it intrigues me because even though the place is ridden with outlaws, people can still live there peacefully.

The "building" was not really a skyscraper, but more like 69 skyskrapers joined together in a 6.5 acre urban madness. 33,000 people lived in this Leviathan of Ugliness.

weird phone call

it was about 5:01PM today, i was getting ready to pick up my best-friend from his workplace when it happened. My phone rang, it was an unknown number, but things like this often happens to me,

One time I even greet an unknown number with a 'mushi-mushi' and strangely the guy on the other line greeted me back with a 'mushi-mushi'. And if the caller is a babbling chinese guy, it's often guys who wrongly dialed my number and this chinese guy starts babling some name, "AH CHONG ah? AH CHONG ah?", i'd reply with ' Ni chuo sum mo? wuo pu xe tau nie" and ends it with a giggle and "Long Number aaaaaa" and he'll be like "nie pu xe ah chong meh?" and i'll be like "pu xe pu xe" and he just ends the call, probably angry and embarrassed since i have his number now.

but today's call was by far the best and weirdest calls i've ever had, I'm no stranger to prank calls, long time ago a friend of mine pranked me by asking me if he could publish some of my comics, which was badly drawn by the way and i've been on guard ever since. And to be honest, this call, i don't know, it just caught me of guard.

it started with a silent moment, i said hello

then a song can be heard at the background,

it was so clear, "i tried to say goodbye and i choked~";
given the circumstances this could've been alot more scarier if my rooms darken

i said hello again, breathing can be heard on the other line.;
the whole duration of this call, i was not scared, rather excited, like i was in a movie or something.

then the song keeps on playing, along with the breathing sound.

after a moment of just enjoying the song, i said hello again, and the phone was noticeable brought away from the speaker and now i can hear the breathing sound more profoundly.

song still playing at the background though, just alot quieter.

then i was thinking, should i just leave it so i could finish this person's credit or should i just hang up. i mean, i can't even hear the song anymore and i really needed to go to the toilet.

and i hung up.

it's just wasn't worth the wait.

a monkey

i saw a monkey today strolling across my yard, probably a scouter trying to find new place to live, it nonetheless peaked my curiosity so i decided to come nearer to it. as i was walking towards it, i thought, what if that monkey beats me, like those videos i saw on the internet, then another thought came into my mind, i should've brought the camera, maybe i could record myself getting beat up by a monkey, but that shaman in 'Crazy Safari' won against a baboon, maybe a could achieve the same feat. Fortunately, nothing happen though, the monkey ran to my neighbor's yard and climbed their tree.

it's their problem now.

The Last Airbender, i just finished watching it, the Avatar's name is Wong, and the southern water tribe sent two kids to accompany Wong, Cataract and some guy from Twilight, following them is the Banished Prince, Zuko and his uncle Nyoro, movie ends with the Avatar doing the Cyril hand sign.

at the climax i actually paused the movie and went to the toilet to get some water for my scorpion,

this scientist was suppose to demonstrate the effect of solenoid and magnet towards the EMF using a cathode ray oscilloscope, something about Faraday's Law. but instead, using a retort stand, a coil of wire, and a stretched wire, the mad scientist created a working Electric Guitar, albeit lacking an amplifier port and only have one string. It was the most amazing thing his audience ever seen, the mad scientist dubbed it the latest in line of the S.M.S.A guitar brand. but then i didn't take any screenshot, so i can never prove that. the only proof i have of such occurrence is the fact that the mad scientist made all the audience go home late.

they say Albert Einstein was mad cause he got a closet full of the same set of shirt.

Last day of BGIC, kicks off with the General Assembly, sadly no resolution passed, due to Russian and Uzbekistan 'hate-all-resolution' speeches. well, first two resolution was done by delegates of USA, naturally Russia and Iran fires all their nukes on them, the third Resolution failed because it was a fail, while the fourth resolution, the only resolution that almost win, lost by four votes.

i got to say, it's one of the best things I've participated in years.

For those who are not familiar with BGIC, it's actually a Model United Nation(MUN) where students dress formally and represent a country to give ideas and debate over it with the other countries. Idea that gets the most supporter or idea that passed with the most countries vouching for it would be sent to the UN for their consideration.

People from all over the world come together to make it a very interesting and very enjoyable event. I've met people from Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, New Zealand, Africa, Ireland and so so so much more.

I was watching an R5 of 2012 just now, overall i'll give it about 7.5/10 cause it's full full of cliché and abit long but it is still entertaining.

strangely, after watching that movie, i had a new found respect for the indians. The movie might be fictional but India does produce many of today's greatest minds, as media has conveyed, Indians are synonymous from jobs ranging from engineers, doctors, teachers and gardeners.

and recently, a new advertisement pops up on the telly, one about the movie Zombieland, that movie have been around for so long, the already released the Official DVD.. and now they are advertising it in Asia? go buy the DVD, cheaper in a way.

I'm currently using another Linux OS,

the Ubuntu linux OS 9.10

after some tweaking here and there, it finally looks beautiful to me and it runs Counter-Strike 1.6 on WINE.

out of the box, it's design to be super fast and is ideal for everything basic, but it is very ugly.

but after giving it some time, some love~ some hard work, i finally got it to look nice.

here's my current desktop, with unedited picture from KnOwing as desktop background.

and my favourite feature on Ubuntu is the Cube Desktop,
now i'm well aware that windows also have this Cube Desktop but it's from a third-party program. but with Ubuntu running GNOME-Compiz as the Desktop manager, Cube Desktop comes out the box.

plus on windows, as far as i know, everything will only look flat.. like this

Compiz offers something more, like 3D cube Desktop.

CrunchBang Linux

CrunchBang, with Openbox desktop, Conky system monitor top right and Rhythmbox top left.

crazy shit, so light, so fast, i love the Openbox, i love the Conky, but it is just too advanced for me, i would love to learn moar about it but since i'm not the only one using this pc, I'm going to move to Ubuntu 9.10 real soon..

Can run Counter-Strike on WinE,
Fun

Final Words:
i would not recommend this OS for Linux first-timer, it may be based on Ubuntu, but the only advantage to that is that it can run what Ubuntu can, and #! itself is very different than Ubuntu.
if i'm the only one using this pc, i wouldn't mind using this OS for another few months(till the next update which comes every 6 months), but for my siblings, this OS is just too complicated, for instance, i have to run programs by typing it's name. For me that's cool, but for them, it's complicated.
So, #! is cool and all, but still, no beans.

for days now, my house had no internet since the lightning storm, it was strange though only lightning for half an hour before there was actually any rain falling.

anyway, now i'm going to reformat my PC, and change the OS from winXP to Crunchbang.

after Crunchbang, I'll be moving to Ubuntu 9.10 then to Win7, hopefully by then, Win7 issues with my GFX 5200 card is resolved.

brief movie reviews

Here's my movie reviews in a nutshell:

BILLU BARBER

75% of the movie is just a filler, only the last part counts. basically the first 75% is full of badly cut and edited scenes with occasional song numbers but the last 25% parts, in my opinion, pretty much makes the movie worth watching. If the first 75% was not there, the final 25% would've make total sense but it will not give the same effect to it. gettit? watch it, i'm recommending it.

Crank 2: High Voltage

the movie is basically about a guy, who had his heart taken by the gangster and replaced with a fake ones, running around with a hot stripper looking for his heart back while electrocuting himself just to stay alive.oh, did i mention he got a faggot partner played by Efren Ramirez? he got manly the last part of the movie, which was surprising. Very Ridiculous but effing entertaining. not something you would watch with your girlfriend.

Chocolate

i'd say nothing to the script.. it's like the writer and producer is not even trying.. it's just multiple awesome fighting scene starring a girl who only got two lines throughout the movie.. which is "mom's money.." "give money". i have nothing to complain bout the heroine though, she's one tough lady, she got real cuts and bruises and do her own stunts. my favourite part in the movie would be when her father pulls out a Beretta and calmly shoots the guys that was charging at him with katana swords while evading getting slashed himself. watch it if you like movies with no real script, just fighting.. like ong bak 2. xD

Next Day Air

the story is simple, not original but still fun to watch. it's about a package that was delivered to the wrong address. chaos ensured as one party was trying to find the package while the other was trying to sell it. watch it if you must.. it's not a big movie but the twist and turns it in makes it worth watching.

The Hangover

if i have to write a sypnosis about this film, it'll be,

tomorrow will be a big day for many Pre-U1 students as tomorrow is the Mathematics paper for the As level, fortunately, I'm not one of them, but it does make me think though, next year i will be in their shoes and i hope i will be ready by then. i've seen my marks recently and i can say i've improved in Math GP and Biology and Probably Physics.. i can't say the same for Chemistry, don't know why.

I've been absent from school for days now, but then today, when i finally go to school again, i didn't really feel like i missed out that much, just that i felt like a stranger in that school. i like retro design when it comes to digital camera, it's like a homage to what camera once look like. not to mention, i looks good in the hands.

last year, i found Panasonic-L1, still my most wanted camera and i found some, VERY CHEAP, at eBay.com, if only Brunei support Pay-pal, i could just buy it then and now. hopefully, next time, Brunei would have Pay-pal and i would be able to buy right away.

then, there's Panasonic-LX3, some people prefer it over DSLR.

“A few months ago I decided I was ready to move up from my LX3 to a dslr. After much consideration I decided to get a 500D, and sold the LX3 to help fund it.

I ended up returning it twice due to faults (mucky ovf out the box and a bunch of dead pixels on the next). I gave up for a while but got a 3rd. Within 3 days of having it, I used an air blower to get some dirt off the focusing screen and ended up getting more dirt over it, and some on the sensor too. What remained would not come off with the blower and I just plain gave up. Far too much hassle for me. In the time I had several 500Ds, I had the kit lens, tokina 11-16UWA and the 50mm 1.8.

So I got rid of the 500D and thought about forgetting photography altogther (it's a fairly new hobby to me). I was fairly disappointed as I was going on holiday to Canada and wanted to take some snaps.

So anyway, at Heathrow I was browsing duty free and saw a brand new black LX3 in stock for £300.... I ummed and ahh'd but I pulled the trigger.

I am so glad I did. Rather than worry about changing lens in various environments and lugging around a big bag of lens I was able to take my LX3 everywhere, and even btter, get shots that the 500D with any of those lens wouldn't have been able to.

I forgot how awesome the LX3 is, you can handhold at 1/10 and still get a sharp shot.

I'm not saying it's any sort of a replacement for a dslr but I prefer it as it is always in my bag and I can just take pictures.

The last 4 or 5 images on my flickr page (address in my sig) were taken in Canada with the LX3. I would post them here but for some reason I can't copy and paste stuff into the forums anymore...
